In the July 2015 UN Financing for Development (FfD) conference the multilateral development banks (MDBs) were asked to lead the establishment of a Global Infrastructure Forum "as a key pillar to meet the sustainable development goals". The first forum is scheduled to take place during the World Bank and IMF spring meetings in mid-April in Washington DC. The agenda for the one-day meeting includes a focus on mobilisation of private finance and on blending public and private roles in infrastructure management and finance. More

Trade ministers from around the world are concluding a contentious week of negotiations in Nairobi, Kenya under the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Doha Development Round. Thus far, there is no indication that Pope Francis, when he was in Nairobi three weeks earlier, blessed the Kenyatta International Convention Center where the summit will take place.
Given the intransigent tone of the U.S. and other developed country representatives, a papal blessing may be the only thing that can produce an outcome worthy of the WTO’s current mandate to promote development. The United States is demanding nothing less than the ending of the Doha Round. More

Das BMZ hat es geschafft, das Thema Ernährungssicherung auf die Agenda der G7 zu setzen. Der ursprüngliche Vorschlag enthielt eine Verpflichtung der G7, die Zahl der Hungernden um 500 Millionen zu reduzieren, und konkrete Finanzzusagen für die nächsten 15 Jahre, wurde aber nicht von den anderen G7-Ländern unterstützt. Unbefriedigend ist, dass der G7-Verhandlungsprozess nach wie vor Top-down, weitestgehend intransparent – vor allem je näher der Gipfel rückte - und exklusiv organisiert war. Die von Hunger betroffenen Gruppen wurden nicht beteiligt. Wieder einmal. Die G7 scheint in diesem Punkt nicht lernfähig bzw. lernwillig zu sein.
